Some of my best adventures occur after getting lost. That’s what happened when I stumbled upon Absolute Bagels one Sunday evening.
I stepped in the shop exhausted and hungry, my day not having gone as smoothly as I hoped. Right away, I was greeted by a young guy and older woman behind the counter.
Almost immediately, I was overwhelmed by the number of bagels and spreads the shop offered. The guy took pity on me and asked if I had any questions. I told him I wanted to try a NYC bagel, but wasn’t sure what to go for. He very sweetly went over the menu, explaining popular pairings and the shop’s specialties.
Thanks to his guidance, I decided to grab a Nova and cream cheese, with lettuce and tomato, on an onion bagel. Parched, I also requested a glass of their Cranberry Thai Iced Tea.
While he put my order together, the older woman rang me up. They both inquired about where I was from and what brought me to New York. During our conversation, they told me I was super lucky to have the shop to myself, explaining the lines typically in the mornings are out the doors.
Once seated, I dug into my bagel, which tasted so unbelievably fresh and delicious. I can now see what all the fuss concerning New Yorkers and their bagels is about. The bagel actually ended up being so filling I wrapped up half of it for after I managed to get back to my friend’s apartment that night.
